How bottom up and top-down meet in your body

People get stuck in different ways.

They procrastinate.
They are internally conflicted.
They don't keep promises to themselves.
They find the answer to their needs but they don’t follow through.

In the body, this can look like bracing or not feeling the emotional content of the physical.

You can solve this in 2 phases. The first is finding your Body of Resource.


Your body of resource is the one that has evolved over millions of years to solve a universal human struggle:
navigating the design of an unstable structure called your skeleton.

The skills you need to do that are contained in standing and walking.

The second phase is to understand how you create your Body of Story.

Bracing often gets in the way. Bracing happens most often at:

the jaw
the shoulder girdle
the pelvis.

So do we just go in and open everything up? Absolutely not!

If your stability is based on bracing, you need to titrate yourself into a new body.

In Coherent Body you

1. find a different layer of support
2. release some bracing
3. go back and reinforce the new support
4. and then release more bracing
5. and repeat.

Think of bracing as a loud defiant body "NO!"
Think of learning to stand differently as an offering of "What about this way?"
And then the bracing might lower to a "Maybe, but not now."
And then you go to the floor and say "Will this work?"
Then bracing might dial down to a "OK, I can try that."

The conversation with your bracing is about coaxing your body into listening.

This conversation needs to be reinforced by your facility in finding support in upright.

This is the necessary bridge to enduring changes.

Standing with internal support is finding the neutral experience of evolutionary body intelligence, which is your body of resource.

Learning to unburden old emotional survival strategies is working with the body of story, which is unlocked through language.

These skills work together in a feedback loop that deepens as you integrate them.

FAQ’s

Q. Will there be a recording?
A. Yes. It will be emailed to you after the event.

Q. Do I need to have experience in mind-body, or will this teach me about somatics?
A. This will be a lot to take in if you are brand new to somatics. Although there are no requirement in order to understand this, the intensive is best for people who already have some background in mindbody concepts.

Q. I have advanced training as a somatic practitioner / nervous system specialist / vagus nerve educator. Will this be worth my time?
A. You will definitely learn things you have not seen before. I have many people with certifications and decades of experience learn from me and finally make connect the dots.

Q. Are there physical requirement for this?
A. I normally suggest you should not be in the midst of recovering from an acute condition and you should be able to walk outside for 30min without getting out of breath. We will be sitting and standing and turning.
